Integración Lutron para Gladys Assistant

Lutron Caséta, RA2 Select, RadioRA 3, HomeWorks QSX, 100% local: lights, shades, fans, Picos.

info

La documentación de esta integración la escribe su autor y, por ahora, solo está disponible en inglés.

Control your Lutron lights, shades and fans from Gladys, and use your Pico remotes and keypads in Gladys scenes. Everything runs on your local network, over Lutron's LEAP protocol: no Lutron account, no cloud, no Internet connection needed by the integration.

First version, being tested. Everything below is implemented and tested against simulated bridges; it is being checked on real hardware (Caséta first). Report anything odd with the Diagnostics button. Changes are listed in the changelog.

Supported systems

SystemStatus
Caséta Smart Hub (L-BDG2, sold in starter kits)supported
Caséta Smart Bridge PRO (L-BDGPRO2)supported
RA2 Select (RR-SEL-REP2)supported
RadioRA 3, HomeWorks QSXsupported, testers wanted
Original Smart Bridge (L-BDG, before LEAP)not supported
RadioRA 2, HomeWorks QS (telnet)not supported

Devices: dimmers (Caséta, Diva, Sunnata, plug-in, in-line), switches and plug-in modules, relays, shades, drapes and wood blinds, fan controls, occupancy sensors, Pico remotes; on RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks QSX also keypads with their LEDs, tunable white and colour lights (Ketra, Lumaris).

What stays local, what does not

  • Gladys ↔ bridge: 100 % local. Pairing, discovery, control and events go straight from Gladys to the bridge on your network. They keep working when the Internet is down.
  • Adding devices to the bridge is done once in the Lutron app, which asks for a Lutron account. This is Lutron's own setup, outside Gladys. After that, the integration never needs the app nor the Internet. A Pico remote can also be paired directly to a dimmer, without any app.

Installation

  1. Plug the bridge into your router with its network cable and add your devices to it in the Lutron app.
  2. Give the bridge a fixed IP address (a DHCP reservation in your router) so Gladys always finds it.
  3. In Gladys, install the Lutron integration, open its configuration.
  4. Leave the IP address empty (the bridge is searched on your network) or type it, then click Pair the bridge.
  5. Within 60 seconds, press the small black button at the back of the bridge. The status turns to "Connected".
  6. Open the Discover tab and create the devices you want.

If the search finds nothing, type the IP address: some networks (VLANs, mesh Wi-Fi, Docker installs) block the discovery announcements, not the connection itself.

Devices

Each Lutron device becomes a Gladys device named after its Lutron room ("Living room Ceiling"), ready to place in the matching Gladys room:

LutronIn Gladys
Dimmer (Diva, Caséta, Sunnata…)Light: on/off and brightness
Tunable white, colour lightLight: also colour temperature (K), colour, and a "Warm dim" switch
Switch, plug-in module, relaySwitch: on/off
Fan controlFan: speed in % (0 off, 25 low, 50 medium, 75 medium-high, 100 high)
Shade, roller, honeycombShutter: open / close / stop and position
DrapeCurtain: open / close / stop and position
Tilt-only wood blindShutter: the position tilts the slats (50 = open, 0 = closed)
Occupancy sensors of a roomPresence: occupied / free
Lutron scene (Caséta)Push button "Activate"
BridgeSwitch "Smart Away"
Keypad (RadioRA 3, QSX)One button per key (its engraving) and one switch per LED
Battery shade or sensor"Battery low" (Lutron only says good or low)

"On" brings a light back to its last level. States follow the bridge in real time, are read again every 15 minutes and after every reconnection. The device badge says "local", or "unreachable" when the bridge has not answered for 2 minutes.

Pico remotes

Each Pico becomes a Gladys device with one button per physical button (On, Off, Raise, Lower, Favorite…). In a scene, use the trigger "Device state change", pick the button and the press type.

The option Pico remote buttons sets how presses are detected:

  • Instant: a click is reported the moment you press, with no delay. Double clicks and long presses are not detected.
  • Normal (default): click, double click and long press are detected. A single click is reported about 0.3 s later, the time to make sure no second press follows.
  • Slow: like Normal, with wider timings (0.45 s for a double click, 0.75 s for a long press), for people who press slowly.

Examples with the trigger "Device state change" on a Pico button:

Button and press typeScene
"On", Clickturn the living room lights on
"On", Double clickactivate the "Cinema" scene
"Off", Long pressturn every light of the house off
"Raise", Long press then Long press releasedstart, then stop, a dimming loop

Raise and Lower repeat while held, so their long press is detected 0.25 s later than the other buttons: a short press on them stays a click. Two identical clicks in a row are two events: each one starts the scene. The Pico reports no battery level (Lutron does not send it).

Keypads (RadioRA 3, HomeWorks QSX)

Each keypad becomes a Gladys device: its keys are buttons like the Pico ones (named after their engraving), and each LED a switch. A key runs its Lutron programming as usual; Gladys sees the press. An LED follows the keypad programming: Lutron may switch it back right after Gladys changes it (an LED tracks its scene or its zones).

  • Action "Lutron: press a keypad button" (keypad, engraving or number) presses a key as a finger would, which runs its Lutron programming. A Caséta bridge cannot do it with a Pico: control the light or the scene directly.
  • Trigger "Lutron: room scene activated" fires when a room scene changes (keypad, app, timeclock), with the room and scene names as variables and as optional filters. Not fired for a key pressed by Gladys itself.

Scenes

Lutron devices work with the usual Gladys scene blocks: "Device state change" as a trigger (Pico presses, occupancy, Smart Away, low battery), "Control a device" as an action (lights, shades, fans, Lutron scenes). The integration only adds what these blocks cannot do:

  • action "Lutron: set a level with a fade": a dimmer reaches a level over a chosen time, up to 4 hours (a sunrise in the bedroom, a slow dimming for a film); 0 turns it off;
  • action "Lutron: tilt the slats": the slats of a blind with lift and tilt (Gladys has no tilt control);
  • triggers "Lutron: bridge offline" (no answer for 2 minutes: power cut, network, reset; variable "Reason") and "Lutron: bridge back online" (variable "Offline duration").

Default fade time (configuration) applies to every level Gladys sends to a dimmer; 0 keeps the dimmer's own fade.

Dashboard widget

The Lutron overview widget shows what the device boxes cannot: the bridge and its connection, Smart Away, the number of devices, the occupied rooms, the low batteries and the last Pico presses (remote, button, press type, time). Its buttons switch Smart Away on or off, and reconnect the bridge when it is offline. To control the lights of a room, use the core room box.

Good to know

  • Occupancy is reported per room (all its sensors together); the delay before "free" is set on the sensor itself.
  • Lutron does not publish LEAP: a firmware update of the bridge may change it. Report any problem with the Diagnostics button.
  • Native "hold" and "multi-tap" events depend on the system (RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks programmings): on Caséta, the integration detects double clicks and long presses itself.
  • Pairing can fail on a network using jumbo frames: pair from a standard network.

Options

  • Pico remote buttons: how presses are detected (see "Pico remotes").
  • Default fade time: see "Scenes".
  • Hide from the Discover tab: device types you do not want to create in Gladys (Picos you only use with Lutron, scenes, Smart Away…). Devices already created keep working.

One bridge per Gladys for now.

Security

The bridge only accepts Gladys after the button press. The certificate it signs is stored in the Gladys configuration (included in the Gladys backups, never shown in the interface), and every connection checks the bridge's certificate: another machine cannot pretend to be your bridge.

Troubleshooting

  • "Button not pressed in time": click Pair again, then press the bridge button within 60 seconds.
  • "Certificate refused": the bridge was reset. Click Forget the bridge, then pair again.
  • States not updating: click Test the connection; the integration also reconnects and reloads every state by itself.
  • To report a problem: see "Diagnostics" below.

Diagnostics

The Diagnostics button reads the description of your Lutron system from the bridge (rooms, devices, buttons, scenes, current levels) and writes it to the integration logs. It only reads: nothing is changed on the bridge.

  1. Click Diagnostics (it takes a few seconds, up to a minute on a big system).
  2. Open the Logs tab of the integration.
  3. Copy every line from LUTRON DIAGNOSTICS BEGIN to LUTRON DIAGNOSTICS END and attach it to your report.

The dump is anonymized: serial numbers are replaced by serial-1, serial-2…, MAC and IP addresses and any geographic position are masked, and no certificate or key is ever included. Room and device names are kept, since they explain your setup; rename them in the dump if you prefer. When the bridge is not connected, only the connection state is written.

Cómo instalar Lutron en Gladys

¿Todavía no usas Gladys?
