Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar smart home integration, free and open source

Control and monitor Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar Max, Plus and Mini over your local network.
Controls an AMBEO Soundbar Max, Plus or Mini over your local network (no cloud). The Plus is the reference model; Mini and Max are supported the same way.
Setup
- Find the soundbar's IP address (Smart Control app or your router).
- Enter it in the integration's Configuration screen.
- Press Test the connection: it reads the soundbar now and says what it answered (model, firmware, number of inputs, volume). If it reports an error, the address is wrong or the soundbar is not reachable on its port 80.
- Run a device scan: one device with all settings your model supports is created.
Device features
Power, volume, mute, input, sound profile, night mode, AMBEO mode, voice enhancement, sound feedback, subwoofer, LED/logo/display brightness, Bluetooth pairing, eco mode, audio codec and now playing (read-only). Plus and Mini also expose the center volume; the Max exposes the AMBEO level and the center/side/up-firing levels instead.
Power follows the model: the Max can be woken from standby and put back, the button of the widget is hidden on the other models.
A model that does not answer a whole group of settings (some firmware versions do not) still appears: what it does not answer is logged and skipped.
Widget "Soundbar remote"
Power on/off, volume down/up (step configurable), mute, and one button per selectable input.
Scenes
Action "Play a sound on the soundbar" plays an MP3 or WAV:
- File of the "sounds" folder: the integration serves the file itself and the
soundbar fetches it. The folder lives in the integration's own data volume, and
the default sound is named in the configuration (leave the scene field empty to
use it). A three second sample tone (
tone.wav) ships with the integration and is installed on first start. - http(s) URL: a direct link to the file, reachable by the soundbar.
The optional volume field sets the volume before playing.
Action "Read the soundbar state" returns volume, mute, input, sound profile and
codec, readable by the following steps as {{outputs.<key>}}.
Action "Set the soundbar volume" sets an absolute volume.
Trigger "Volume crossed a limit" fires when the volume goes above the "too loud" limit or below the "too quiet" limit set in the configuration. The trigger carries the direction, the limit and the new volume. It fires once per crossing: for a plain "volume above X" condition, use Gladys' own "device state changed" trigger on the volume feature.
Notes
The soundbar API is not officially documented; the paths follow the open-source pyambeo library. Playback of a file is not verified against a device yet.

Configuration settings
These are the settings Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar asks for in its configuration screen in Gladys.
| Setting | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soundbar IP address | string | Yes | IP address or hostname of the soundbar (shown in the Smart Control app or your router). |
| Refresh interval (s) | number | No | How often the soundbar state is read, in seconds (one minute minimum). |
| Widget volume step | number | No | Volume units added or removed by the Louder / Quieter buttons. |
| Sounds of the scenes | section | No | The sound files are served by the integration itself on its own port: open that port, drop your MP3 or WAV files there, then reload this screen. A three second sample tone is installed on first start. |
| Default sound file | string | No | Name of the file played when a scene names none. Sample files: tone.wav, or tone.mp3 once you add it to the folder. |
| Too loud above | number | No | Fires the 'volume crossed a limit' trigger when the volume goes above this value. 0 disables it. |
| Too quiet below | number | No | Fires the 'volume crossed a limit' trigger when the volume drops below this value. 0 disables it. |
How to install Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar in Gladys
- In Gladys, open Integrations: Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar appears in the catalog, next to the native integrations, with a community badge.
- Click Install. Gladys pulls the Docker image (
ghcr.io/tomgermany/gladys-sennheiser-ambeo:1.1.1), starts it in a sandbox isolated from the core, and generates the integration's interface (devices, discovery and configuration). - Open the Configuration screen of the integration, fill in the settings, and save.
- You can also install it directly from its repository URL: https://github.com/tomgermany/gladys-sennheiser-ambeo.
Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar requires Gladys >=5.1.0. The catalog inside Gladys refreshes every hour, so a new version becomes available at most one hour after its release.
Not running Gladys yet? It is free and open source: follow the installation guide to get started.
About external integrations
Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar is an external integration: a community integration packaged as a Docker container and published on GitHub, that Gladys installs in one click and runs in a sandbox isolated from its core. It is published and maintained by tomgermany, not by the Gladys core team.
