Meteoclimatic smart home integration, free and open source

Readings of the Meteoclimatic amateur weather stations (Spain, Portugal, Andorra) in Gladys.
The readings of the amateur weather stations of Meteoclimatic, a network of more than 1,500 stations in Spain, Portugal and Andorra: temperature, humidity, pressure, wind and rain of the day, refreshed every 10 to 15 minutes.
The data belongs to Meteoclimatic and its station owners, under the CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 licence: the integration shows it unchanged, and the widget credits the source. This integration is not affiliated with Meteoclimatic. For official forecasts and observations in Spain, see the AEMET integration.
What it does
- Reads the stations you choose by their code, with no account and no key.
- Creates one device per station: temperature, high and low of the day, humidity, pressure, wind, strongest wind of the day, wind direction, rain of the day, and the age of the reading. A station without rain gauge or anemometer simply has no such feature.
- Finds the stations around your house, with their distance.
- Adds a Meteoclimatic station dashboard widget, five scene triggers (rain starts, rain stops, strong wind, station silent, station back) and a scene action Station readings.
Read only: the integration never changes anything on a station.
Requirements
- Gladys Assistant 5.2.0 or later.
- Internet access (the public feeds of meteoclimatic.net).
- For the nearby search: the location of your house, set in Settings → Houses. The integration asks for access to the house coordinates on the install screen; it only uses them for this search.
Configuration
Choose the stations
- Open the Configuration tab of the integration.
- Click Find stations near a house: pick the house (empty: the first house with a location) and a radius (empty: 10 km). The result lists the stations online, nearest first, with their code, name, province and distance.
- Copy the codes you want into Stations, separated by commas (10 at
most). The code also ends the address of a station page on the website:
https://www.meteoclimatic.net/perfil/ESCAT0800000008350A; the whole address is accepted too. - Save, then open the Discovery tab and add the stations.
A zone code (ESCAT08, a province) is not a station: Check the stations
says so.
Other settings
- Reading interval: every 10, 15 (default), 30 or 60 minutes. The stations upload about every 10 minutes, and Meteoclimatic is a volunteer network: the integration never reads faster, one station at a time.
- Language: language of the feature names, set when a device is added (rename them in Gladys if you change your mind afterwards), and of the scene texts.
Check the stations reads each station now and tells how old its last reading is.
Devices
Station
One device per station, named after the station ("Meteoclimatic Arenys de Mar"):
| Feature | Unit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Temperature | °C | |
| Today's high / low | °C | since local midnight, as the station counts |
| Humidity | % | |
| Pressure | hPa | as the station publishes it |
| Wind | km/h | the current wind of the station |
| Today's strongest wind | km/h | the highest wind of the day |
| Wind direction | ° | 0 = north, 90 = east |
| Rain today | mm | since local midnight |
| Reading age | min | minutes since the last reading |
The features are those the station sends: one without rain gauge has no "Rain today". They are learnt from its data and kept.
Reading age
Meteoclimatic only lists a station that uploaded within about an hour. Past 60 minutes without a new reading, the values are no longer sent to Gladys (they would look recent): only the reading age keeps growing, and the widget shows the station as offline.
Widget
Meteoclimatic station: the temperature, humidity, wind and rain of the day as live tiles, the high and low of the day, the strongest wind (orange from 60 km/h), and the age of the reading, with the credit of the source. Setting: the station (empty: the first station added).
Scenes
Triggers
Every trigger has a Station filter, and gives the station name as a variable.
- Meteoclimatic: it starts raining: the rain of the day grows again after 30 minutes without growing. Once per rain episode. Variable: rain of the day (mm).
- Meteoclimatic: the rain stops: the rain of the day stopped growing for 30 minutes, 1, 2 or 3 hours, after rain. Once per dry spell and per duration. Variable: rain of the day (mm).
- Meteoclimatic: strong wind: the strongest wind of the day passes 30, 40… 120 km/h. Once per day and per threshold. Variable: strongest wind (km/h).
- Meteoclimatic: station silent: no new reading for 1, 2, 4 or 12 hours. Variable: minutes without reading.
- Meteoclimatic: station back: a new reading after a silence of an hour at least. Variable: minutes without reading.
Meteoclimatic gives the rain and the strongest wind of the day, not the instant values: the triggers follow their increases, at the pace of the readings (10 minutes at best). After a restart of the integration, the first reading is a reference: rain already fallen or a strong wind already measured do not fire anything.
Action: Station readings
Gives the last reading of a station (empty: the first station added): temperature, high and low of the day, humidity, pressure, wind, strongest wind, rain of the day, age, online or not, and a ready-made sentence: "Meteoclimatic Arenys de Mar · 14.8 °C · 82 % · Wind 12 km/h SW · Rain today 2 mm · 3 min ago". A station offline gives its age only.
Scene examples
- Close the awning when the wind rises: trigger "Meteoclimatic: strong wind", above 50 km/h → close the awning, send a message.
- No watering after rain: trigger "Meteoclimatic: it starts raining" → turn the watering scene off for the day; trigger "the rain stops" after 3 hours → turn it back on.
- Morning weather message: every day at 7:00 → action "Meteoclimatic:
station readings" → send
{{summary}}to your phone.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing in the Discovery tab: the station has not uploaded for over an hour, or the code is wrong. Check the stations tells which, and the station page on meteoclimatic.net shows its last reading.
- "This is a zone, not a station": use Find stations near a house or the code at the end of a station page.
- The search finds nothing: Meteoclimatic covers Spain, Portugal and Andorra; try a wider radius.
- "Meteoclimatic does not answer": the website is down or unreachable from Gladys; the readings resume on their own.
- Detailed logs: set
LOG_LEVEL=debugon the integration container.
Limits
- Amateur stations, maintained by volunteers: their siting and calibration vary, a value can be off, and a station can stop for days.
- The rain and the strongest wind are those of the day (reset at local midnight by the station), not the instant rain rate nor the current gust.
- The pressure is the one the station publishes: usually sea-level, sometimes the station's own (a mountain station then reads about 850 hPa).
- Positions are rounded to two decimals (about a kilometre): distances are approximate.
- The feeds carry no humidity or pressure history, no UV, no solar radiation.
- Data under CC BY-NC-ND 3.0: personal, non-commercial use, with credit.
Configuration settings
These are the settings Meteoclimatic asks for in its configuration screen in Gladys.
| Setting | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meteoclimatic stations | section | No | Meteoclimatic is a network of amateur weather stations in Spain, Portugal and Andorra. Its data is open (CC BY-NC-ND licence), no account needed. Not affiliated with Meteoclimatic. |
| Stations | string | No | The codes of the stations to read, separated by commas (10 at most). The code ends the address of the station page (…/perfil/ESCAT0800000008350A). The "Find stations near a house" button below lists those around you. |
| Reading interval | select | No | The stations upload about every 10 minutes; Meteoclimatic is a volunteer network: 10 minutes is the fastest. |

How to install Meteoclimatic in Gladys
- In Gladys, open Integrations: Meteoclimatic appears in the catalog, next to the native integrations, with a community badge.
- Click Install. Gladys pulls the Docker image (
ghcr.io/guim31/gladys-meteoclimatic:1.0.0), starts it in a sandbox isolated from the core, and generates the integration's interface (devices, discovery and configuration). - Open the Configuration screen of the integration, fill in the settings, and save.
- You can also install it directly from its repository URL: https://github.com/guim31/gladys-meteoclimatic.
Meteoclimatic requires Gladys >=5.2.0. The catalog inside Gladys refreshes every hour, so a new version becomes available at most one hour after its release.
Not running Gladys yet? It is free and open source: follow the installation guide to get started.
About external integrations
Meteoclimatic is an external integration: a community integration packaged as a Docker container and published on GitHub, that Gladys installs in one click and runs in a sandbox isolated from its core. It is published and maintained by guim31, not by the Gladys core team.
- Browse all integrations, native and community
- Build and publish your own external integration
