Meteo.lt smart home integration, free and open source

Observations and forecasts for Lithuania from Meteo.lt, the national weather service. No API key.
The weather of Lithuania in Gladys, from Meteo.lt, the service of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT, Lietuvos hidrometeorologijos tarnyba): the measurements of the nearest weather station and the official forecast of the nearest place (hourly for about 2.5 days, up to 7 days). Open data: no account, no API key.
Source: Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Environment (LHMT), data licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. This integration is a community project, not affiliated with LHMT.
What you get
- The Gladys weather widget and the chat assistant use Meteo.lt: the current weather measured by the nearest LHMT station (temperature, feels-like temperature, the sky it observes, humidity, pressure, wind and gusts, cloud cover), completed by the forecast for what the station does not measure, sunrise and sunset, the next 24 hours with the precipitation of each hour, and the next days (7 in all). Day and night have their own icons. Everything is shown in °C, m/s and mm or in °F, mph and inches, following the unit system of each Gladys user.
- Scene trigger "Rain or snow expected within the hour".
- Scene action "Get the precipitation of the next hour".
- Scene action "Get the forecast of the day" (today or tomorrow).
No extra widget: the Gladys weather widget already shows the current weather and the forecast.
No weather warnings. The Meteo.lt API publishes no warning (LHMT publishes them on its website): the weather widget shows no alert, and the built-in weather alert trigger of Gladys stays silent with this provider.
Lithuania and nearby towns only. Meteo.lt forecasts 2,444 places: every Lithuanian town and village of some size, and the main towns of Latvia, Estonia and north-eastern Poland. A house gets the forecast of the nearest place within 30 km; farther, there is no forecast and Gladys uses another weather provider. For a worldwide forecast, install MET Norway instead.
Installation
- Check that your house has a location in Gladys: Settings → Houses, then the address or the position on the map. The integration refreshes the weather of every house that has one.
- Install Meteo.lt from the integration store (or Integrations →
Install from GitHub with the address
https://github.com/guim31/gladys-meteo-lt). Gladys asks you to allow access to the location of your houses: it finds their nearest place and station, and watches the rain of the next hour. - Open the Configuration tab and click Test Meteo.lt. The answer shows the current temperature of your first house, the station that measured it and the place of its forecast.
That's it: the weather widget of your dashboard now shows Meteo.lt. If another weather integration is installed, pick the provider in the settings of the weather widget.
Gladys 5.2 or later is required.
Configuration
Nothing is mandatory.
- Units of the scene values — the units of the temperatures, wind and precipitation the integration puts in scene variables. Automatic follows the unit system of the last user who looked at the weather; pick Metric or US to set it. The weather widget always follows each user's own preference.
- Language of the scene texts — the language of the sentences the integration puts in scene variables ("Light rain expected in 35 minutes."): English, French, German or Spanish. French by default; Automatic follows the language of your Gladys.
Refresh rate and Meteo.lt's terms
Meteo.lt publishes its data openly, within limits (180 requests a minute per Internet address, and no more than 20,000 a day). The integration stays far below them:
- it refreshes about every 30 minutes, plus a few random minutes so that every Gladys does not call at the same second (Meteo.lt updates its forecast 8 times a day, its stations every hour);
- per house, it makes one forecast call and one station call (houses at the same place share them): about 100 requests a day for one house, plus the lists of places and stations once a day. These feed everything: the dashboard, the chat and the scenes. Opening the dashboard costs nothing: Gladys is served from memory;
- it identifies itself
(
gladys-meteo-lt/<version> github.com/guim31/gladys-meteo-lt); - it pauses if Meteo.lt asks to slow down (error 429) or refuses the requests (error 403).
During an outage, the last forecast stays visible for 3 hours at most. A station measurement older than 90 minutes is no longer used.
Scenes
The integration adds its cards to the scene editor, in the Integrations category. The House field lists your houses.
Rain or snow expected within the hour
Trigger: starts the scene when the hourly forecast shows precipitation this hour or the next one, where the previous refresh showed none. It fires once per event, at most once an hour per house, and never on the first refresh after a restart.
Optional filters (empty: everything matches):
- House;
- Precipitation: rain, sleet or snow;
- Intensity: light, moderate or heavy.
Variables for the next actions: the name of the house, the kind of
precipitation (rain, sleet, snow), the intensity (light,
moderate, heavy), whether there is thunder, the minutes until it starts
(0 if it is already falling), the amount expected that hour, and a
summary ready to send, for example: "Light rain expected in 35
minutes."
Get the precipitation of the next hour
Action: tells the scene whether rain or snow is coming within the hour (Precipitation expected: yes or no), when, what, how hard, and the same summary. Leave House empty for your first house that has a location. If no hourly forecast covers the hour, Forecast available is no: do not read it as dry.
Get the forecast of the day
Action: reads the forecast of today (the rest of the day) or tomorrow for a house, and returns:
- the sky, as a Gladys code (
clear,partly-cloudy,rain,snow…) and in words ("Rain"); - the minimum and maximum temperatures;
- the precipitation of the day;
- the strongest wind and the strongest gust;
- a summary, for example: "Tomorrow: snow, -3 to 1 °C, 4.2 mm of precipitation."
Scene examples
- Bring the washing in: trigger "Rain or snow expected within the hour", then a notification with the summary variable.
- Snow on the way: trigger "Rain or snow expected within the hour", precipitation snow, intensity moderate or heavy, then a reminder to move the car into the garage.
- Morning weather: at 7:00, action "Get the forecast of the day" (today), then a message with its summary.
Limits
- Developed without a Gladys running in Lithuania: the integration is tested against real answers of Meteo.lt (Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda, 24 October 2026). Feedback welcome.
- Lithuania and nearby towns only (see above), and no weather warnings.
- The forecast is the one of the nearest place, not of the exact position of the house: Meteo.lt forecasts places, not coordinates.
- The station is the nearest one within 50 km; its reading counts while it is less than 90 minutes old. A station does not measure everything (no cloud cover in fog, for example): the forecast fills in what it lacks. Without a station, the current weather is the forecast of the hour.
- No probability of precipitation, dew point nor UV index: Meteo.lt does not give them.
- The hour is the finest step, for about 2.5 days; then 3 hours, then 6 hours. Beyond the hourly part, the next hour is "not available".
- The days are cut in the time zone of Gladys, for every house.
- The integration needs Gladys 5.2 or later.
Troubleshooting
- "No house of Gladys has a location" — set the location of your house in Settings → Houses.
- "Meteo.lt has no forecast for the location of your house" — the house is more than 30 km from every Meteo.lt place (outside Lithuania and its neighbourhood), or its location is wrong: check it in Settings → Houses.
- "Meteo.lt asks to slow down" — too many requests from your Internet connection: the integration waits and retries by itself.
- "Meteo.lt refuses the requests (HTTP 403)" — update the integration.
- "Meteo.lt is unreachable for now" — Gladys cannot reach
api.meteo.lt: check its Internet access. The integration retries after 5 minutes, then less and less often. - The test does not name a station — the nearest station is more than 50 km away, or measured nothing recently: the current weather comes from the forecast.
- The dashboard still shows another provider — open the settings of the weather widget and pick Meteo.lt.
- Logs: the Logs tab of the integration (or
docker logson the host) shows the start, the problems and the return of Meteo.lt, once each. Start the container withLOG_LEVEL=debugto see every refresh.
Privacy
The coordinates of your houses never leave Gladys: the integration downloads the list of places and stations and picks the nearest ones itself. Meteo.lt only sees the codes of that place and that station (a town or a village, and a station). No account, no key, nothing is written to disk.

How to install Meteo.lt in Gladys
- In Gladys, open Integrations: Meteo.lt appears in the catalog, next to the native integrations, with a community badge.
- Click Install. Gladys pulls the Docker image (
ghcr.io/guim31/gladys-meteo-lt:1.0.0), starts it in a sandbox isolated from the core, and generates the integration's interface (devices, discovery and configuration). - Open the Configuration screen of the integration, fill in the settings, and save.
- You can also install it directly from its repository URL: https://github.com/guim31/gladys-meteo-lt.
Meteo.lt requires Gladys >=5.2.0. The catalog inside Gladys refreshes every hour, so a new version becomes available at most one hour after its release.
Not running Gladys yet? It is free and open source: follow the installation guide to get started.
About external integrations
Meteo.lt is an external integration: a community integration packaged as a Docker container and published on GitHub, that Gladys installs in one click and runs in a sandbox isolated from its core. It is published and maintained by guim31, not by the Gladys core team.
