Déchèteries smart home integration, free and open source

Déchèteries integration for Gladys Assistant

Recycling centres of French metropolitan areas: open now, closing time, next opening, waste.

The recycling centres (déchèteries) of French metropolitan areas in Gladys: open now or not, closing time, next opening, today's hours, and the accepted waste where the area publishes it. The hours come from the open data of the metropolitan areas. No account, no key.

Hours are the ones the areas publish: check with the operator before a long trip, especially on a public holiday or after a change of season.

Unofficial integration, not affiliated with the metropolitan areas nor with the operators. Tested against the real answers of the four sources (2026-10-30), not yet on a real Gladys instance: feedback welcome.

What you get

  • A device per recycling centre you add: open now, today's hours, closing time, next opening.
  • In Bordeaux, the accepted waste as a text, and five yes/no features: green waste, rubble, wood, electrical appliances, bulky waste.
  • A widget "Recycling centres": your sites on one row each, green when open, orange in the last half-hour, red when closed.
  • Three scene triggers: a site opens, a site closes soon (30 minutes by default), a site closes.
  • A scene action "Is the recycling centre open?": your sites in a sentence, with the closing time or the next opening.

Requirements

  • Gladys Assistant 5.3.0 or later.
  • Internet access from Gladys: the sources are public open data portals.
  • For the nearest sites: the location of the house set in Gladys (Settings → Houses).

Installation

  1. In Gladys, open Integrations → Install from GitHub.
  2. Paste https://github.com/guim31/gladys-decheteries and confirm.
  3. Gladys asks to share the location of the house: it is only used to find the nearest sites, and never leaves your Gladys.

Configuration

Settings

  • Metropolitan areas: every recycling centre with hours of the areas ticked is offered. Available today: Strasbourg (Eurométropole), Toulouse Métropole (Decoset), Bordeaux Métropole, Tours Métropole Val de Loire.
  • Nearest recycling centres: also offer this many sites nearest to the house (3 by default, 0 to turn off), within the maximum distance (30 km as the crow flies by default). Nothing to tick if you live in one of the four areas.
  • Closing soon (minutes): when the "Recycling centre closes soon" trigger fires (30 by default).
  • Language of names and messages: French by default. Feature names are fixed when a device is added; the texts follow the language at once.

Adding recycling centres

Save the configuration: the sites appear in the Discover tab of the integration. Add the ones you use. A site added stays watched even if you untick its area.

Checking

The Status button lists the areas read, the number of sites with hours, the sites offered, the last read and the errors.

Devices

FeatureTypeValue
Open nowbinary1 open, 0 closed; no value when the hours cannot be read
Today's hourstext"09:00–12:00, 14:00–18:00", "Closed today", "Public holiday…"
Closing timetext"18:00" while open, "Closed" otherwise
Next openingtext"tomorrow at 09:00", "Sunday at 10:00"
Accepted wastetextBordeaux only: "green waste, rubble, wood…"
Accepts green wastebinary (×5)Bordeaux only: green waste, rubble, wood, electrical, bulky

The values are computed every minute by the integration, without any request.

Dashboard widget

Add the Recycling centres widget to a dashboard: one row per site (10 at most), with its name in Gladys and "open until 18:00", "closes in 15 min" or "closed · opens Sun 10:00". Settings: the sites shown (empty: all of them), and Show the times to keep only "open" or "closed".

Scene triggers

  • Recycling centre opens: variables site_name, closes_at.
  • Recycling centre closes soon: as many minutes before closing as set in the configuration; variables site_name, closes_at, minutes_left.
  • Recycling centre closes: variables site_name, next_opening.

Each trigger can be limited to some sites; empty, any watched site fires it. After a long pause (the computer asleep, Gladys stopped), no late trigger is fired.

Scene action

Is the recycling centre open? returns sentence ("Déchèterie de Blagnac: open until 12:00."), open_count and sites_count, for the sites picked or all of them. Send the sentence in a message or to a speaker, or continue only if open_count is 1.

Scene examples

  • Saturday at 9:00, send "Is the recycling centre open?" to your phone before loading the car.
  • When "Recycling centre closes soon" fires and you are not home, a reminder: "closes at 18:00".

  • Each area is one request once a day (an hour later after a failure), only for the areas needed. Open or closed is computed every minute from the hours kept, in the time zone of Paris.
  • Public holidays are computed offline (Alsace-Moselle included). When the source does not say what a site does on a holiday, it is assumed closed on 1 January, 1 May and 25 December, and on the other holidays closed unless the site opens on Sundays: the texts say "assumed".
  • Dated exceptions published by Tours (summer hours, works, Christmas Eve) are applied.
  • Licences: Licence Ouverte / Etalab 2.0 for the four sources.

Troubleshooting

  • Nothing in the Discover tab: tick an area, or set the location of the house and keep "Nearest recycling centres" above 0. The Status button says which.
  • "Hours not readable": the source published hours this integration does not read (it never guesses): tell us on the forum.
  • An area is unavailable: the last hours read are kept; it is tried again an hour later.
  • Logs: in the integration screen, or LOG_LEVEL=debug for every read.

Limitations

  • Four metropolitan areas only: the others publish no hours as open data (Rennes gives hours for 1 site in 24, Nantes only the waste, Angers a calendar no longer kept up). Tell us about another source.
  • The Toulouse data (Decoset) was last updated in 2022.
  • The mobile recycling centres of Bordeaux publish no hours: they are not offered.
  • The accepted waste is known in Bordeaux only.
  • Access conditions (badge, residents only, vehicle size) are not shown: check with the operator.
  • Developed without visiting the sites: feedback welcome.

Credits

Data: Eurométropole de Strasbourg, Toulouse Métropole and Decoset, Bordeaux Métropole, Tours Métropole Val de Loire (Licence Ouverte). Public holiday rules as in date-holidays. Built on the Gladys integration SDK.

How to install Déchèteries in Gladys

  1. In Gladys, open Integrations: Déchèteries appears in the catalog, next to the native integrations, with a community badge.
  2. Click Install. Gladys pulls the Docker image (ghcr.io/guim31/gladys-decheteries:1.0.0), starts it in a sandbox isolated from the core, and generates the integration's interface (devices, discovery and configuration).
  3. Open the Configuration screen of the integration, fill in the settings, and save.
  4. You can also install it directly from its repository URL: https://github.com/guim31/gladys-decheteries.

Déchèteries requires Gladys >=5.3.0. The catalog inside Gladys refreshes every hour, so a new version becomes available at most one hour after its release.

Not running Gladys yet? It is free and open source: follow the installation guide to get started.

About external integrations

Déchèteries is an external integration: a community integration packaged as a Docker container and published on GitHub, that Gladys installs in one click and runs in a sandbox isolated from its core. It is published and maintained by guim31, not by the Gladys core team.
