Chacon DiO smart home integration, free and open source

Chacon DiO integration for Gladys Assistant

DiO (Chacon) shutters, plugs, light switches and doorbell, in real time through the DiO cloud.

Control from Gladys the DiO Wi-Fi devices by Chacon, the ones you set up with the DiO One app: roller shutters, plugs, light switches and the video doorbell. Changes arrive in real time, whether they come from Gladys, the DiO app, a wall switch or a remote.

Developed without the hardware: feedback welcome. This integration was written from the DiO cloud protocol as publicly documented, and tested on recorded answers, not on real devices. If something does not behave as described here, say so on the Gladys forum or in the issues.

Community integration, not affiliated with Chacon. DiO and Chacon are trademarks of their owners.

Requirements

  • Gladys Assistant 5.1.0 or later.
  • A DiO One account (the app of the DiO Wi-Fi devices), with your devices already installed and named in the app. Gladys uses those names.
  • An Internet connection: the integration goes through Chacon's cloud, like the app. Without Internet, Gladys can neither read nor control your DiO devices.

The older DiO 433 MHz devices (remotes, plugs and modules without Wi-Fi, driven by the DiO 1.0 hub) do not go through this cloud: they are not covered.

Configuration

  1. Install the integration from the Gladys catalog.
  2. In Configuration, enter the e-mail and the password of your DiO One account, then save.
  3. The connection status shows at the top of the screen: "Connected" once the DiO cloud accepted the account.
  4. Open the Discovery tab: your DiO devices are listed there. Add the ones you want in Gladys, and put them in their rooms.

The other settings:

  • Safety refresh: changes arrive in real time, but as a safety net every added device is read again at this interval (every 5 minutes by default). One request reads every device.
  • Allow the control of garage doors and gates: off by default. See "Garage doors and gates" below.
  • Language of the feature names: "Position", "Movement", "Plug"… in the chosen language (French by default). It applies to the devices added after the change: Gladys fixes the names when a device is added.

The List the devices of the DiO account button shows everything your account holds, the devices the integration does not support yet included, with their model and type.

Devices

Each DiO device becomes a Gladys device, with the name you gave it in the DiO One app.

DiO deviceIn Gladys
Roller shutter (REV-SHUTTER module, CERSwd…)Position from 0 % (closed) to 100 % (open), and Movement: Open / Stop / Close buttons, which also show whether the shutter goes up or down
Light switch (REV-LIGHT)Light on / off
Smart plugPlug on / off
Video doorbellRing: "Ringing" for a few seconds at each ring, then the time of the last one

Each device also carries a cloud pill, which turns unreachable when the DiO cloud sees the device offline (Wi-Fi down, breaker off, plug unplugged) or when the cloud itself does not answer.

Dimmers, bulbs and cameras are not supported yet: their protocol is not documented. They show in the report of the List the devices of the DiO account button; send us their line so they can be added.

Garage doors and gates

A DiO shutter module can also drive a garage door or a gate. Opening one from afar is unlocking a door: by default, these devices are read-only. Gladys shows their position but refuses every command, and neither the widget nor the "Move all DiO shutters" action touches them.

The integration recognizes them by the calibration of the module, when it says door, or by their name in the DiO One app: "garage", "gate", "portail", "Tor", "verja"… A patio door shutter is not concerned. To have a device treated as a door, put one of these words in its name in the app, then scan again from the Discovery tab.

To control them anyway, tick Allow the control of garage doors and gates, then apply the update offered in the Discovery tab. They stay shutters in Gladys, never switches, and stay out of the widget and of the "all shutters" action.

Widget

The DiO shutters dashboard widget shows all your DiO shutters added to Gladys at a glance: open, closed, at 45 %, opening, closing, offline. Three buttons command every shutter at once: Open all, Stop all, Close all. It is the equivalent of the groups of the DiO app.

To add it: edit your dashboard, add a widget and pick DiO shutters. It has no setting.

Scene trigger and action

Trigger "DiO device offline or back online": fires when the DiO cloud loses a device or finds it again. You can narrow it to one device and one direction ("Goes offline" or "Back online"). The variables device_name (name of the device) and state (offline or online) are available in the next actions, in a message for instance.

Action "Move all DiO shutters": opens, closes, stops or sends to a position (0 to 100 %) every DiO shutter added to Gladys, at once. It returns two values: commanded (shutters commanded) and failed (shutters that failed). If no shutter could be commanded, the action fails and the scene notes it in its history.

For a single shutter, plug or light, use the usual Gladys actions ("Set device value", "Turn On the Lights", "Turn On the Switches"…).

Scene examples

  • Close everything in the evening: trigger "Every sunset", action "Move all DiO shutters" with the Close command.
  • The freezer lost power: trigger "DiO device offline or back online" on the freezer plug, change "Goes offline", then a message: "The plug {{device_name}} no longer answers: power cut?".
  • Someone rings at the gate: trigger "Device state change" on the Ring of the doorbell, "If the doorbell rings", then "Turn On the Lights" of the entrance and "Send Message".
  • The Christmas tree: "Every sunset", "Turn On the Switches" on the plug of the tree; at 11 pm, "Turn Off the Switches".

The DiO cloud: traffic and terms

The integration uses the same service as the DiO One app. Chacon publishes neither documentation nor quota for this service: the integration stays frugal.

  • One connection: a single session is opened, then kept in the /data folder of the integration and reused across restarts. The password is only sent when the session has to be opened again.
  • One request per safety refresh for every device (every 5 minutes by default), one request per command, and a small check request when the connection has been silent for 4 minutes.
  • Growing reconnection delay: after a cut, a new attempt after 10 s, then 30 s, 1 min, 2 min, 5 min, and at most every 10 minutes.
  • Password refused: the integration stops there and waits for you to save the configuration. It does not retry in a loop, which could lock your account.

Your e-mail and password are only used to open the session with Chacon's cloud; they never show in the logs.

Troubleshooting

  • "DiO refused the e-mail or the password": check them by logging in to the DiO One app, fix them in the configuration, then save. Saving, even without any change, starts the connection again.
  • "DiO cloud unreachable": your Gladys has no Internet, or Chacon's service is down. The integration retries on its own.
  • A device is missing from Discovery: click List the devices of the DiO account. If it shows with "not supported yet", it is not handled yet; if it does not show, it is not on this account (a device shared by another account only shows in the account that installed it).
  • A device stays "unreachable": the DiO cloud sees it offline. Check in the DiO One app: if it is offline there too, it is its Wi-Fi or its power.
  • A shutter does not reach the right position: the position comes from the calibration of the module. Calibrate it again in the DiO One app.
  • For more detail, set the log level to debug (LOG_LEVEL=debug variable): every read and every message received is described.

Limits

  • Everything goes through Chacon's cloud: without Internet, or if Chacon changes its service, the integration stops working. No local control of the DiO Wi-Fi devices is known.
  • Shutters, light switches, plugs and the doorbell only. No dimmer, bulb, camera or schedule (the schedules made in the DiO app keep working).
  • Device names are taken when the device is added to Gladys: renaming a device in the DiO app does not rename it in Gladys.
  • The doorbell gives neither picture nor video in Gladys, only the ring.
  • A garage door or a gate is recognized by the calibration of the module or by its name: a name without any telling word passes for a shutter. Check that it shows read-only once added.

How to install Chacon DiO in Gladys

  1. In Gladys, open Integrations: Chacon DiO appears in the catalog, next to the native integrations, with a community badge.
  2. Click Install. Gladys pulls the Docker image (ghcr.io/guim31/gladys-chacon-dio:1.0.1), starts it in a sandbox isolated from the core, and generates the integration's interface (devices, discovery and configuration).
  3. Open the Configuration screen of the integration, fill in the settings, and save.
  4. You can also install it directly from its repository URL: https://github.com/guim31/gladys-chacon-dio.

Chacon DiO requires Gladys >=5.1.0. The catalog inside Gladys refreshes every hour, so a new version becomes available at most one hour after its release.

Not running Gladys yet? It is free and open source: follow the installation guide to get started.

About external integrations

Chacon DiO is an external integration: a community integration packaged as a Docker container and published on GitHub, that Gladys installs in one click and runs in a sandbox isolated from its core. It is published and maintained by guim31, not by the Gladys core team.
