Bbox smart home integration, free and open source

Bouygues Telecom Bbox status: line, Internet, Wi-Fi, connected devices and missed calls.
Follow your Bouygues Telecom Bbox in Gladys: line and Internet state, throughput, Wi-Fi, connected devices and missed calls. Everything goes through the local API of the box, no cloud.
Developed without the hardware: feedback welcome. This integration was written from the documentation of the Bbox API and the open-source libraries that use it, without a Bbox to test it on. If a value is missing or looks wrong on your model, open an issue on GitHub with the model of your Bbox and the integration logs.
Independent integration, not affiliated with Bouygues Telecom.
What you get
A Bbox device, with:
- Internet connection (connected or not) and Line synchronized;
- Line type (FTTH, VDSL2, ADSL) and synchronized rates, download and upload (the sync rates on xDSL, the maximum rate the box announces on fibre);
- instantaneous download rate and upload rate, in Mbit/s;
- public IPv4 address and IPv6 address;
- model, firmware, uptime (in days) and, when the model gives it, temperature;
- Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Wi-Fi 5 GHz and, when the model has it, guest Wi-Fi: switches, to turn them off or on from Gladys;
- missed calls of the landline, when the box has telephony;
- connected devices: how many.
And, if you wish, a presence device for each device the Bbox knows (phone, computer…), identified by its MAC address.
Prerequisites
- Gladys 5.1 or later.
- Gladys on the local network of the Bbox.
- The administrator password of the Bbox: the one of the web interface mabbox.bytel.fr.
Models: the integration uses the local API shared by the Bouygues Telecom Bbox
routers (/api/v1). The answers it was tested against come from the Bbox Fibre
(F@st5330b) and the Wi-Fi 6 generation (F@st5688b). The Bbox Miami, Ultym,
Must, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 expose the same API, but none was tried for real:
your feedback will tell what works.
Configuration
- Open the Configuration tab of the integration.
- Bbox address:
192.168.1.254fits nearly every box. If you changed the network of your box, enter its new IP address. - Administrator password: the one of the web interface of the box. Several wrong passwords lock the login of the box for a while: after a refusal, the integration stops trying until you save a new password.
- Refresh interval: every 60 seconds by default, never more often.
- Language of the feature names: Gladys keeps a feature name once the device is added. Pick the language before adding the Bbox.
- Save, then click Test the connection: the model, the firmware and the Internet state show under the button.
- Add the Bbox from the Discovery tab.
Presence of the connected devices
With Offer the connected devices on, every device the Bbox knows appears in the Discovery tab. Add the ones whose presence you want to follow, your phones for instance.
Like the Bluetooth presence of Gladys, it is a "seen at" sensor: it is reported while the device is connected, every 5 minutes, and as soon as it comes back. In a scene, the Check user presence action considers the user gone when none of their devices was seen within the chosen delay: use 10 minutes or more.
Recent phones change their MAC address from one Wi-Fi network to another ("private" or "random" address); on the home Wi-Fi it usually stays the same. If a phone shows up under several names, turn the private address off for the Bbox network in its Wi-Fi settings.
Actions
- Test the connection: reads the Bbox and shows its model, firmware and Internet state.
- Restart the Bbox: tick "I confirm the restart" before clicking. Internet, Wi-Fi and telephone are cut for about two minutes, Gladys included if it uses the Wi-Fi.
Scenes
In the scene editor (Integrations category):
- Internet connection lost: the Bbox lost its Internet connection.
- Internet connection restored: it is back. The next actions read the
outage duration in minutes (
{{triggerEvent.data.downtime_minutes}}) and the IPv4 address ({{triggerEvent.data.ipv4}}). - Missed call: a call on the landline went unanswered. The caller number is
in
{{triggerEvent.data.number}}when the call log of the box gives it.
These triggers compare two readings: an outage shorter than the refresh interval may go unnoticed. A Bbox that does not answer at all (restart, unplugged cable) fires nothing: Gladys cannot tell whether Internet works.
During an outage Gladys has no Internet either: a notification that goes through Internet (Telegram…) cannot leave. Prefer a local action (light, siren), or notify when the connection is restored.
Dashboard
The Bbox widget shows the throughput and the number of connected devices live, the Internet and line state, the IPv4 address, the Wi-Fi and the missed calls. Its button turns the guest Wi-Fi on or off.
Certificate
The Bbox serves its API over HTTPS with a certificate issued for
mabbox.bytel.fr. Only the DNS server of the box knows that name: the
integration therefore connects to the configured IP address, but checks the
certificate for mabbox.bytel.fr, as your browser would.
If the connection status reports a certificate error, the box probably serves an incomplete certificate chain, which browsers complete on their own but the integration cannot. In that case only, set Certificate check to Do not verify. The traffic stays on your local network, but the integration can no longer guarantee it talks to your Bbox and not to another device of the network. Please report it in an issue too, with the model of your box.
Troubleshooting
- "The Bbox does not answer": check the address (
192.168.1.254by default) and that Gladys is on the network of the box, not behind another router. - "The Bbox refused the password": type it again and save. The integration does not retry by itself, not to extend the lock of the box.
- "The Bbox blocks logins": too many failed attempts, from Gladys or elsewhere. The integration waits 15 minutes before a new attempt.
- A value stays empty: your model may not give it. Open an issue with the model of the box and the logs.
- Turning the Wi-Fi off from Gladys also cuts Gladys if it uses that Wi-Fi: prefer a wired connection.
Configuration settings
These are the settings Bbox asks for in its configuration screen in Gladys.
| Setting | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Connect your Bbox | section | No | Gladys must be on the Bbox network. The integration reads the Bbox local API with the administrator password, the one of the web interface (mabbox.bytel.fr). Not affiliated with Bouygues Telecom. |
| Bbox address | string | Yes | IP address of the Bbox on your network, or mabbox.bytel.fr. The certificate is always checked for mabbox.bytel.fr. |
| Administrator password | secret | Yes | The password of the Bbox web interface. Several wrong attempts lock the login for a while. |
| Refresh interval (s) | number | No | How often the Bbox is read, in seconds: one minute minimum. |
| Language of the feature names | select | No | Gladys keeps a feature name once the device is added: choose before adding it. |
| Offer the connected devices (presence) | boolean | No | Every device the Bbox knows appears in the Discovery tab: add the phones whose presence you want to follow. |
| Certificate check | select | No | Keep it on. Turn it off only if the connection status reports a certificate error (see the documentation). |
How to install Bbox in Gladys
- In Gladys, open Integrations: Bbox appears in the catalog, next to the native integrations, with a community badge.
- Click Install. Gladys pulls the Docker image (
ghcr.io/guim31/gladys-bbox:1.0.2), starts it in a sandbox isolated from the core, and generates the integration's interface (devices, discovery and configuration). - Open the Configuration screen of the integration, fill in the settings, and save.
- You can also install it directly from its repository URL: https://github.com/guim31/gladys-bbox.
Bbox requires Gladys >=5.1.0. The catalog inside Gladys refreshes every hour, so a new version becomes available at most one hour after its release.
Not running Gladys yet? It is free and open source: follow the installation guide to get started.
About external integrations
Bbox is an external integration: a community integration packaged as a Docker container and published on GitHub, that Gladys installs in one click and runs in a sandbox isolated from its core. It is published and maintained by guim31, not by the Gladys core team.
