Today I want to share a genuinely useful automation I set up at home, using nothing more than a simple connected Zigbee plug: turning a regular washing machine into a "smart" one.
The idea is simple: by measuring the power consumption of the plug, Gladys knows exactly when a laundry cycle starts and when it finishes — and can then send you a notification so you never forget your laundry in the machine again. No special appliance required, just a Zigbee plug with energy monitoring and a Gladys scene.
